Subaru Outback (BR): Key Lock Cylinders

A: REPLACEMENT

1. FRONT DOOR

1) Raise the front door glass to the top position.

2) Remove the door trim. <Ref. to EI-60, FRONT DOOR, REMOVAL, Door Trim.>

3) Remove the sealing cover.

4) Remove the rod from the outer handle rod clamp.

5) Remove the door outer handle cover.

Preparation tool: TORX T30

  1. Remove the plug to the rear of the door panel.
  2. Loosen the TORX bolt and remove the door outer handle cover.

6) Remove the key cylinder from the door outer handle cover, and replace the key cylinder.

  1. Latch connection rod
  2. Key cylinder
  3. Door outer handle cover (driver's seat only)

Tightening torque: Refer to "COMPONENT" of "General Description". <Ref. to SL-2, DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY, COMPONENT, General Description.>

2. TRUNK LID

1) Remove the trunk lid trim. <Ref. to EI-127, TRUNK LID TRIM, REMOVAL, Trunk Room Trim.>

2) Remove the key cylinder.

  1. Remove the cable (1), clip (2) and bolt (3).

  1. Remove the key cylinder from the trunk lid, and replace the key cylinder.

Tightening torque:
Key cylinder: 7.5 N*m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

3. GLOVE BOX LID

1) Remove the glove box lid assembly.

  1. Remove the glove box damper.
  2. Release the stoppers and remove the glove box lid assembly by pulling it toward you.

2) Remove the key cylinder.

  1. UNLOCK the key cylinder, and pull up the lock knob.
  2. While maintaining the condition (1), insert the key to set LOCK condition.

  1. Push out the key cylinder, while pressing in the metal plate.
  2. Remove the key cylinder from lock knob, and replace the key cylinder.

Security Control Module

A: REMOVAL

1) Remove the heater and cooling unit. <Ref. to AC-62, REMOVAL, Heater and Cooling Unit.>

2) Remove the security control module.

  1. Disconnect the connector.
  2. Remove the nuts, and remove the security control module.

B: INSTALLATION

CAUTION: You must register the immobilizer when a immobilizer-related control module has been replaced. For procedures, refer to the "PC application help for Subaru Select Monitor".

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque: Security control module: 7.5 N*m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

Impact Sensor

A: REMOVAL

1) Remove the key from ignition switch.

2) Close all the doors and rear gate.

3) Press the UNLOCK button of the keyless transmitter.

4) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

5) Remove the impact sensor.

6) Change the impact sensor setting using the Subaru Select Monitor.

B: INSTALLATION

1) Remove the key from ignition switch.

2) Close all the doors and rear gate.

3) Press the UNLOCK button of the keyless transmitter.

4) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

5) Install the impact sensor.

6) Change the impact sensor setting using the Subaru Select Monitor.

C: OPERATION

1. IMPACT SENSOR SETTING USING SUBARU SELECT MONITOR

1) Prepare the Subaru Select Monitor kit.

2) Turn the ignition switch to ON (engine OFF) and run the "PC application for Subaru Select Monitor".

3) On "System Selection Menu" display, select {Integ. unit mode}.

4) Select {ECM customizing}.

5) Perform impact sensor ON/OFF setting.

6) Perform impact sensor ON/OFF setting.

7) Turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the Subaru Select Monitor.

D: ADJUSTMENT

1. CHECK IMPACT SENSOR

1) Remove the key from ignition switch.

2) Close all windows.

3) Close all the doors and rear gate. Leave the front hood open.

4) Press the LOCK button of the keyless transmitter from outside the vehicle.

5) After 30 seconds, check if the security indicator light blinks twice in 0.5 second at 2 seconds intervals.

6) For all glasses, hit the glass strongly and consecutively to see if the security alarm operates. In addition, lift the front hood by approximately 12 cm (4.7 in) or more and let it drop by its weight to see if the security alarm operates.

7) If it does not operate, adjust the impact sensitivity.

2. IMPACT SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT

1) Prepare the Subaru Select Monitor kit.

2) Turn the ignition switch to ON (engine OFF) and run the "PC application for Subaru Select Monitor".

3) On "System Selection Menu" display, select {Impact Sensor}.

4) Execute the {Sensitivity Adjustment Mode}.

5) Turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the Subaru Select Monitor.
