Subaru Outback (BR): Rear Inner Remote

A: REMOVAL

1) Remove the door trim. <Ref. to EI-60, REMOVAL, Door Trim.>

2) Remove the screws and detach the rear inner remote handle.

B: INSTALLATION

1) Before installation, check the following items.

2) Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

Check if the rear remote handle operates normally.

Rear Outer Handle

A: REMOVAL

1) Raise the rear door glass to the top position.

2) Remove the door trim. <Ref. to EI-60, REMOVAL, Door Trim.>

3) Remove the sealing cover.

CAUTION:

4) Move downward the rear door latch & door lock actuator assembly.

  1. Disconnect the connector.
  2. Remove the screws and move downward the rear door latch & door lock actuator assembly.

5) Remove the door outer handle cover.

Preparation tool: TORX T30

  1. Remove the child protector cover.
  2. Loosen the TORX bolt and remove the door outer handle cover.

6) Remove the rear outer handle by moving it rearward.

CAUTION: Do not apply excessive force to remove the handle from the door panel. The door panel may become deformed.

7) Remove the frame assembly.

Preparation tool: TORX T30

  1. Remove the outer spacer.

  1. Remove the TORX bolt and remove the frame assembly from the door panel.

B: INSTALLATION

1) Before installation, check the following items.

2) Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque: Refer to "COMPONENT" of "General Description". <Ref. to SL-2, DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY, COMPONENT, General Description.>

C: INSPECTION

Check if the rear outer handle operates normally.

If the lever is faulty, replace the rear outer handle.

Rear Door Latch and Door Lock Actuator Assembly

A: REMOVAL

1) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

2) Remove the rear door trim. <Ref. to EI-60, REMOVAL, Door Trim.>

3) Remove the sealing cover.

4) Remove the rear door glass. <Ref. to GW-34, REMOVAL, Rear Door Glass.>

5) Remove the rear door latch and door lock actuator assembly.

  1. Disconnect the connector.
  2. Remove the screws, and remove the rear door latch & door lock actuator assembly.

B: INSTALLATION

1) Before installation, check the following items.

2) Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque: Refer to "COMPONENT" of "General Description". <Ref. to SL-2, DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY, COMPONENT, General Description.>

NOTE: Make sure the child safety lock works correctly after installation.

C: INSPECTION

1. REAR DOOR LATCH

Check if the rear door latch operates normally.

If the cable is faulty, replace the rear door latch & door lock actuator assembly.

2. REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR

1) Disconnect the rear door lock actuator connector.

2) Check the door lock operation by applying battery voltage between the terminals of rear door lock actuator.

3) If the actuator does not operate normally, replace the rear door latch & door lock actuator assembly.

Rear Gate Opener Button

A: REMOVAL

NOTE: The rear gate opener button is integrated into the license plate light assembly harness.

1) Remove the rear gate trim. <Ref. to EI-160, REMOVAL, Rear Gate Trim.>

2) Remove the rear gate garnish. <Ref. to EI-164, REMOVAL, Rear Gate Garnish.>

3) Remove the rear gate opener button.

  1. Release the locks at both ends of the rear gate opener button by pushing with a flat tip screwdriver.

  1. Remove the screws and remove the license plate light.

  1. Remove the license plate light assembly harness from the rear gate garnish.

B: INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Make sure that the harness grommet is installed securely.

Incomplete installation causes water leak.

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

1) Disconnect the rear gate opener button connector.

2) Measure the resistance between rear gate opener button terminals.

3) Replace the rear gate opener button if the inspection result is not within the standard value.

Trunk Opener Switch

A: REMOVAL

1. TRUNK OPENER SWITCH

NOTE: The trunk opener button is integrated with the VDC OFF switch.

1) Remove the instrument panel lower cover. <Ref. to EI-64, REMOVAL, Instrument Panel Lower Cover.>

2) Release the claws and remove the trunk opener button.

2. TRUNK OPENER CANCEL BUTTON

1) Remove the glove box. <Ref. to EI-66, REMOVAL, Glove Box.>

2) Release the claws and remove the trunk opener cancel button.

B: INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

1. TRUNK OPENER SWITCH

1) Disconnect the trunk opener button connector.

2) Measure the resistance between trunk opener button terminals.

3) Replace the trunk opener button if the inspection result is not within the standard value.

2. TRUNK OPENER CANCEL BUTTON

1) Disconnect the trunk opener cancel button connector.

2) Measure the resistance between trunk opener cancel button terminals.

3) Replace the trunk opener button if the inspection result is not within the standard value.
