Subaru Outback (BR): Spot Map Light

A: REMOVAL

NOTE: The spot map light is a single unit with the overhead console.

1) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

2) Remove the overhead console assembly.

  1. Push and open the rear end of the overhead console lid, and remove the screws.
  2. Remove the clips and pull out the overhead console to disconnect the connectors.

3) Release the claws, then detach the spot map light cover and bulb.

B: INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

1. SPOT MAP LIGHT BULB

1) Visually check the bulb for blow out.

2) Check the bulb specification. <Ref. to LI-2, SPECIFICATION, General Description.>

3) Replace the bulb if it is found defective.

2. SPOT MAP LIGHT SWITCH

1) Remove the overhead console assembly.

2) Measure the resistance between spot map light switch terminals.

3) Replace the overhead console assembly if the inspection result is not within the standard value.

3. OVERHEAD CONSOLE ILLUMINATION LIGHT BULB

NOTE: Since LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) are used for the overhead console illumination light bulb, replace the overhead console assembly if an LED burns out.

Room Light

A: REMOVAL

1) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

2) Remove the room light.

  1. Release the claws and remove the cover.
  2. Remove the screws.

  1. Disconnect the connector and remove the room light and bulb.

B: INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

1. ROOM LIGHT BULB

1) Visually check the bulb for blow out.

2) Check the bulb specification. <Ref. to LI-2, SPECIFICATION, General Description.>

3) Replace the bulb if it is found defective.

2. ROOM LIGHT SWITCH

  1. Remove the room light.
  2. Measure the resistance between room light switch terminals.

3) Apply battery voltage to check the lighting condition of room light.

4) Replace the spot map light switch if the inspection result is not within the standard value.

Luggage Room Light

A: REMOVAL

1) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

2) Remove the luggage room light.

  1. Release the claws and remove the luggage room light main body.
  2. Disconnect the connector and remove the luggage room light.

3) Release the claws, and detach the luggage room light cover and bulb.

B: INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

1. LUGGAGE ROOM LIGHT BULB

1) Visually check the bulb for blow out.

2) Check the bulb specification. <Ref. to LI-2, SPECIFICATION, General Description.>

3) Replace the bulb if it is found defective.

2. LUGGAGE ROOM LIGHT SWITCH

1) Remove the luggage room light.

2) Measure the resistance between luggage room light switch terminals.

3) Replace the luggage room light if the inspection result is not within the standard value.

Trunk Room Light

A: REMOVAL

1) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

2) Remove the trunk room light

  1. Disconnect the connector.
  2. Turn the trunk room light counterclockwise to 60º and remove the light.

3) Release the claws, and detach the trunk room light cover and bulb.

B: INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

1) Visually check the bulb for blow out.

2) Check the bulb specification. <Ref. to LI-2, SPECIFICATION, General Description.>

3) Replace the bulb if it is found defective.

Glove Box Light

A: REMOVAL

1) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

2) Remove the glove box. <Ref. to EI-66, REMOVAL, Glove Box.>

3) Remove the glove box light from the glove box back panel.

B: INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

1) Install the glove box light and test if it illuminates normally.

2) If it is found not to illuminate normally, replace the glove box light with a new part.

NOTE: Since LED (Light Emitting Diode) is used for the glove box light, replace the glove box light assembly if the LED burns out.

Door Step Light

A: REMOVAL

1) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

2) Remove the door step light.

CAUTION: Be careful not to damage light and door trim.

  1. Insert a flat tip screwdriver into the slit of the door step light to release the claw.
  2. Disconnect the connector and remove the door step light.

B: INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

C: INSPECTION

1) Visually check the bulb for blow out.

2) Check the bulb specification. <Ref. to LI-2, SPECIFICATION, General Description.>

3) Replace the bulb if it is found defective.

A: INSPECTION 1) Remove the filler plug, and then check the gear oil. Replace the gear oil if it is contaminated, deteriorated or cloudy. <Ref. to DI-23, REPLACEMENT, Differential Gear Oil.> 2) Check that the gear oil level is within -5 mm (- 0.2 in) from the bottom of the filler plug hole.
